In recent years members of the Kilmarnock and Loudoun Amateur Radio Club have been actively participating in the IOTA contest. Each year, a group of our club members head off to an island and set up a portable radio station, and thereafter participate in the 'Islands On The Air' contest. Previous destinations have included Arran, Islay and Rathlin Island.

The main aim of the contest is for each club to contact as many other amateur stations as possible in a 24 hour period. Points are then allocated on a fixed scale for each successful contact made, with a higher number of points being won for each other island based station contacted in preference to mainland contacts.

This year's DX-pedition again headed off to Rathin Island - EU122, where a very enjoyable time was had by all.

The 5 club members who participated in this event were:

Stephen Campbell - GM4OSS

Allan McKay - GM3OZB

Barry Beggs - GM3YEH

Roger Harman - MM0BRG

Gordon Stewart - MM0BIM
